Duty free shop at Keflavík Airport

For Keflavík Airport’s new duty free shop, we were commissioned to develop a bespoke typeface with a mixture of soft and jagged traits, a contemporary sans mirroring the drama and shifting ebbs and flows of Iceland’s landscape. The typeface is designed and produced together with Approximate Type. 

Fjara (Icelandic for “shore”) is designed in two weights, Regular and Medium, to be used for in-store signage in both large and small scale. The typeface functions as one of the primary elements in the broader brand identity developed by Checkland Kindleysides.
